Abstract :
Standard personal computer (PC) platforms are increasingly used as a digital signal processing unit in research and industrial applications. An important class of these applications is closed-loop system control. This paper reports on the performance of computer generated system controller programs running on a Linux based real-time operating system (RTOS). In these tests, two induction motor control algorithms control a power drive using the peripheral component interconnect (PCI) interface. It is shown that loop control frequencies of up to 10 kHz are easily achievable under moderate hardware requirements
