Abstract :
A computer program that evaluates the performance of insulator profiles under polluted conditions, by the dry band phenomenon, was developed. Using this computer program, new insulator profiles were evaluated. From this, a better design of insulator profile under pollution conditions for 15 kV overhead distribution lines was achieved. Insulators having such a profile were manufactured and evaluated in a fog chamber according to IEC-507: 1991. The experimental results shown good correlation with the ones obtained by the computer program
