Abstract
The author explores the origins of decision support technology and the hierarchical characteristics of decision-making. He discusses the military application of single-user systems as tools for alternative generation and analysis. He offers a definition of a group support system for the military (i.e., command decision support systems) and presents recommendations for implementing behavioural research in the development of command decision support systems
