Abstract
The authors have investigated the performance of bandpass-limited symmetric differential phase shift keying (BPL-SDPSK) as a candidate bandwidth efficient modulation. This modulation is distinguished in that the filtering and limiting inherent in the transmitter are considered a part of the modulator rather than a part of the channel characteristics. Simulation results show that the spectrum of BPL-SDPSK is comparable to that of minimum shift keying (MSK) when practical considerations of filtering and limiting in the transmitter are considered. Furthermore, both analytical and simulation results show that the error rate performance of BPL-SDPSK is better than that of MSK when the latter is differentially detected
