Abstract
Traditional middleware technology is confronted with great challenges in open and dynamic pervasive computing environments. The infrastructure of a pervasive middleware, which refers to the substrate of communal pervasive facilities, should be highly interoperable, scalable and QoS-enabled as well as provide necessary mechanisms to support pervasive software architecture. To address those issues, we developed StarORB5, a pioneer CORBA3-compliant middleware infrastructure. Enhancing traditional object request broker (ORB) architecture, StarORB5 provides a set of powerful features to support pervasive environments while still keeping high conformance and performance. This paper presents our motivation of selecting CORBA3 and the design of StarORB5 in detail
