Abstract
Saturation effects in salient pole synchronous machines are generally modelled by assuming that the saturation effect is primarily limited to the field pole. However, saturation of the stator teeth and core can also become saturated such as when operating as a generator with a leading power factor load. This paper addresses the modeling and simulation of simultaneous saturation of both the stator and rotor taking into account the correct components of flux linkage which contribute to these effects. Suitable saturation curves are computed using finite element methods. Simulation results are shown using the new saturation model.
