  • Abstract
Virtual assembly (VA), one of key technologies in advanced manufacturing field, is a promising application of virtual reality in design and manufacturing field. It has drawn much attention from industries and research institutes. In this paper, we design a three-dimensional interactive virtual assembly system, making full use of Java language, EAI (External Authoring Interface) provided by VRML2.0 and Script node of VRML. We then propose a precise assembling position capture algorithm in virtual environment, which allows users to assemble and operate more conveniently. Finally, an application example is introduced to testify the feasibility of the virtual assembly system prototype. We can see from the example that the prototype we construct provides users with a visual assembly environment of good immersion and friendly interaction
