Abstract :
The experimental results of removing nitrate and nitrite in a sulfur-shell packed bed reactor indicate that nitrate is effectively removed through the autotrophic denitrification process in the sulfur-shell packed bed reactor. More than 95% removal achieved when HRT> 4 h in nitrate denitrification process and when HRT> 1 h in nitrite denitrification process. The pH of effluent decreases with the decrease of hydraulic retention time. The amount of sulfate generation only related with the removal of nitrate and nitrite. Δsulfate: Δnitrate = 7.72, Δsulfate: Δnitrite = 7.97. In denitrification process, the effluent loads augment with the augment of influent loads. On the contrary, the removal rate of load decrease with the augment of influent loads. Denitrification of nitrate and nitrite has the highest removal rate at pH = 8.0 and pH = 7.0.
