Abstract
A novel vector space approach for adaptive beamforming is presented. The vector space method is formulated for both narrowband and broadband arrays. It consists of first formulating the beamforming problem as a linear system of equations in a matrix-vector form and then finding the solution to the system with an iterative matrix inversion technique known as the row-action projection algorithm. The vector space approach for narrowband and broadband arrays is compared to the more well-known algorithms via computer simulations. The row-action projection algorithm demonstrates performance comparable to that of the well-known algorithms while providing potential advantages for parallel implementations
