Abstract :
In order to reveal possible neurological and cardiovascular effects of occupational exposure to relatively low levels of extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields (EMF), a clinical and epidemiological study on high-voltage linesmen, electric train drivers and matched controls was performed. The results point to peripheral nervous system changes (significant decreases of nervous conduction velocities and increased distal motor latencies) and to cardiovascular changes (arrhythmias, conduction disturbances and myocardial ischemia), both statistical associated with occupational ELF EMF exposure.
