  • Abstract
    Water quality assessment continues to be an important challenge, different wired and wireless sensor networks based on water quality (WQ) transducers being reported in the literature. Taking into account the measurement of multiple WQ parameters in different surface water locations, the paper presents a hybrid distributed measurement architecture that combines a wired network supporting SDI-12 protocol and a long range wireless communication based on XSTREAM RF modems. The system is used to monitor the ocean influence in the Sado estuary as well as the anthropogenic factors influence.
