Abstract
Procedures for measuring electrostatic noise signals produced in coaxial communication cables are introduced. On the basis of an analysis, it is concluded that the main source of electrostatic noise is the friction between the conductor and the dielectric. The electrostatic phenomena of triboelectrification in the cable are investigated and characterized. Two groups of methods for decreasing the noise are suggested and discussed.<>
