Abstract :
This paper presents the way of converting electrical energy in light generation based on a p-n junction using photometric explanations. Energy needed by a semiconductor for emitting photons of a specific wavelength was determined. Mathematical equation for defining a light emitting diode (LED) in terms of electrical and thermal simulation was applied. Photometrical properties are directly influenced by junction temperature and injected current level. These three main fields of studies join together and define the LED characteristics. Thermal characterization and thermal management plays important role in case of power LED, necessitating both physical measurements and simulation tools. A new simulation tool was tested based on FEM and using Salome and Elmer software.
