            Abstract : 
Electromagnetic scattering by clusters of spheres has been analyzed by direct mode matching [Bruning and Lo, 1971]: the multipolar amplitudes are determined by solving a set of linear equations obtained by directly imposing the boundary conditions at the surface of each sphere. Experimental results are available for the simple case of two spheres [Bruning and Lo, and Kattawar and Dean, 1983]. Other theoretical treatments of this problem have used a group-theoretic approach and an order-of-scattering technique. The present authors apply the indirect mode matching (IMM) technique to obtain a compact and exact solution to scattering from a cluster of N spheres. Boundary conditions are imposed indirectly through Green´s second theorem. They present numerical results for an acrylic bisphere, which has been investigated in Kattawar and Dean; interest is also in the oxygen and ozone molecules.<>
