Abstract :
The author presents a full wave analysis which is used to study the bandwidth and scan impedance of an infinite array of EM-coupled rectangular patches as a function of substrate parameters, grid spacing, and element geometries. The spectral dyadic Green´s function for an electric dipole source embedded in a two-layer grounded dielectric slab was used. A variety of EM-coupled geometries were evaluated numerically. To validate analytical results, a waveguide simulator was constructed. The microstrip feedline does not image properly in a rectangular simulator, which requires an element with two planes of symmetry. Therefore, a coaxial probe was used to feed the lower patch at an edge, and an excellent agreement was obtained.<>
