Abstract :
A novel method of estimating the rotor position and speed of a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor using a high-speed digital signal processor by measuring stator quantities is described. The basic idea of this method stems from exploiting the saliency characteristics of a PM synchronous machine. A complete vector control drive of a PM synchronous machine with position estimator has been simulated using the PC-based SIMNON program. The simulation results show that the performance of the machine with position estimator is in close agreement with that of a position sensor. Since the estimation algorithm needs few instructions, such as multiplications and additions and subtractions, it is well suited for real-time application using a high-speed digital signal processor
