Abstract :
This paper investigates the use of the super-regenerative principle for the generation and reception of ultra-wideband impulses. The basic scheme includes a resonant circuit coupled to a negative resistance controlled by an external quench generator, which yields alternated periods of circuit stability and instability. The study shows that as a signal generator the circuit can produce and modulate narrow pulses with a small number of carrier cycles. As a receiver, the circuit behaves as a high-gain narrow-pulse filter. An estimation of the circuit parameters required for the generation and reception of sub-nanosecond pulses is also provided.
