Abstract :
The use of genetic algorithms (GAs) in the design of antennas has become increasingly popular. This is due to their versatility and ability to perform a rigorous search in complex multi-modal search spaces. Much attention has previously been placed on binary genetic algorithms. However, few authors have looked at the use of continuous (decimal) genetic algorithms, particularly for antenna design. In this paper, the similarities and differences between the continuous parameter and binary genetic algorithms are examined. The use of continuous parameters in genetic algorithms for the optimisation of antenna design is also presented. The antenna presented here is designed for near field immunity and susceptibility testing
