Abstract
The authors present a formulation which avoids the partly full and partly sparse nonsymmetric matrix by modifying the coupling technique. It allows one to make full use of the nice property of the coefficient matrix. This further enhances the computational efficiency and expands the capability of the hybrid finite-element method (HFEM). It is concluded that HFEM is currently one of the most efficient numerical techniques for study of two-dimensional scattering problems involving inhomogeneous dielectric and/or magnetic media.<>
