Environmentally conscious product design [of PC display monitors]

Product specifications for PC systems and display monitors have to take account of many world-wide environmental requirements. This paper gives an overview of the standards and guidelines, both current and emerging, that PC display monitors are now designed to meet, and takes a practical look at the design and manufacturing methodologies employed to ensure compliance, including the importance of a unified corporate policy on environmental affairs. As a real example of how design methodology and corporate policy work together to meet today´s stringent environmental requirements, we take as a case study the recent submission of an IBM display monitor through the German Blue Angel certification programme
