Abstract
The problem of estimating time delay in a single scalar chaotic time series associated with delay differential equations is considered. By using the embedding techniques for reconstructing chaotic attractors, this paper proposes an approach of information entropy for infering the delay information from the chaotic time series. A sharp decrease of information entropy is utilized as a criterion of detecting the time delay. It is shown that the proposed approach is simple, practical and effective
