Abstract :
Two aspects of the development of personal communication networks (PCNs) are considered. A rigorous methodology to calculate system requirements for the RF parameters of the TDMA DCS 1800 standard developed by ETSI for PCN is explained. To ensure a high-quality network, careful attention is paid to proximity scenarios involving base and mobile stations from different operators. This methodology is applied to CDMA systems. In addition, techniques for handling fast moving mobiles in a microcellular environment are developed, and these are expected to be incorporated in phase two of the DCS 1800/GSM standard
