Abstract :
The effects of synchronous ports on the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in an interference-limited time-division multiple access (TDMA) personal communications system for both the time-division duplexing (TDD) and frequency-division duplexing (FDD) methods are evaluated using computer simulations. It is quantitatively shown that if the port transmissions are synchronized, both duplexing schemes perform equally well, but TDD requires port synchronization to achieve reasonable uplink quality. A system-wide port synchronization in a large service area where the ports are widely distributed may be difficult to implement economically and reliably
