Abstract :
The capacitive energy storage is a stationary experimental installation intended for study of heavy current discharges in condensed matter. The storage is of module structure. The capacitor bank consists of two modules, each including three capacitor units. The discharge circuit of the unit includes the capacitors, triggered vacuum switch (TVS) as a closing switch, crowbar diodes and inductor. The storage has a number of peculiar features distinguishing it from similar installations: a.) the connected-in-parallel capacitors in the unit are protected by coaxial cable lengths; b.) the ballast resistors are incorporated into the units and provide their decoupling with respect to the ground and high voltage buses of the charger; c.) the charge circuit provides charging of each module to different voltages in the range from 0 to 5 kV; d.) provision is made for parallel or series connection of the discharge circuits of the module; e.) pulse current can be formed by delayed triggering of TVS (programmable discharge mode); d.) the control system based on the embedded microcontrollers provides control over operator actions, provides diagnostics of the main components and subsystems of the storage. The possibility is provided to increase the number of the modules to 6 and total storage energy to 900 kJ.
