Abstract :
The circuitry configuration, fast processing algorithm, and noise reduction of the short-time discrete Fourier transform (ST DFT) compander are described. Multirate sampling signal processing is efficiently introduced to reduce the amount of processing in the ST DFT analyzer. The ST DFT compander, which uses the instantaneous spectrum concept, is shown to be free from distortion by avoiding detection of the voice envelopes and to be effective in reducing fading noise over poor radio channels
