Abstract :
The advanced train control system (ATCS) RF network uses frequencies in the 900-MHz band, and Gaussian filtered baseband frequency shift keying modulation at 4800 b/s with data encoded using a Reed-Solomon forward error correction code. Field tests were conducted to determine the RF performance of a mobile communications package (MCP) designed for ATCS both in areas of relatively flat terrain and in mountainous regions. The results of these tests were presented, including a description of the techniques used to extract the Rayleigh and shadowing components of the measured signal. Message error rate (MER) results are given, and these results are compared to results from lab tests using a mobile channel simulator and to theoretical predictions
