Abstract
An analytical noniterative procedure is presented that allows a power pattern with a shaped main lobe to be obtained. The method is based on the fact that the pattern of an array is not more than the Fourier transform of the currents sequence; i.e. the sequence that results from discretizing the inverse Fourier transform of the pattern. This means that the feed currents are the coefficients of the Fourier series of the pattern with only N harmonics for a given array of N elements. The results obtained assure that, although the shape of the main beam is practically constant for all the windows, the transition from the shaped zone to the side lobes becomes more abrupt as the function which is used to convolve is elaborated. A reduction of the side lobes of the function is also accompanied by the same effect in the pattern.<>
