Abstract :
Spatial power combining amplifier has gained worldwide interest since 1990´s and many of them have been developed in both open space and enclosed space. Combing efficiency describes the effectiveness of the combiner in summing all of the available power from active devices. Although it is one of the key figures of merit, some aspects still could not be understood clearly. In this paper spatial power combining amplifier techniques are firstly introduced. Then efficiency of such amplifiers is discussed including combining efficiency and power added efficiency. How unbalance of amplitude and phase impact on combining efficiency is analyzed in details and simulation results are given.
