Abstract :
Some of the technical issues and scenarios involved in using digital cellular over the cable television (CATV) network are addressed, and it is shown that direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) requires relatively inexpensive lasers, costing less than one quarter the price of those required for time-division multiple access (TDMA) and the present analog cellular systems. It also requires less system engineering when used over the CATV fiber-optic plant, thus reducing the overall system complexity
