Abstract :
Partition dependency is a data allocation constraint in distributed database systems. It has been shown that this constraint can be used to speed up query processing. However, some update operations may cause violations of the existing partition dependencies in a distributed database system. In order to preserve database integrity and accuracy of query results, such violations must be detected and avoided. We present some strategies for processing update operations in distributed database systems such that there is no violation of partition dependency.
