Abstract
This paper proposes new structure of a high speed high-voltage pulse power generator with a saturable pulse transformer and high-voltage diode stack as a semiconductor opening switch. To reduce the leakage inductance, a linear pulse transformer structure is proposed consisting of a ferromagnetic core having one- turn primary winding and one-turn secondary winding. Each primary winding is connected to several parallel branches including a several capacitors and IGBTs. All secondary windings are connected in series with an output high-voltage capacitor, and a high-voltage diode stack. In one module with charging voltage of 700 V and 8.6 Omega load the output voltage is 2.35 kV with rising time of 7.5 ns. In four modules which have series connected outputs with the same input voltage and 13 Omega load, we obtained 8.17 kV with rising time of 7.7 ns. The repetition frequency was 1000 pps.
