Abstract :
The rapid growth of various wireless communication applications urge on the need for antennas producing dual-band or multiband operation. Planar monopole antennas are good candidates owing to their attractive features, e.g. simple structures, omnidirectional radiation patterns, low cost and ease of construction. We demonstrate a novel and simple dual-band design of printed planar monopole antenna. The antenna consists of crisscross monopole elements, a conductor-backed parasitic plane and a microstrip feedline. Simply by loading the crisscross conducting strip and parasitic plane, a dual-band printed monopole antenna can be easily obtained. Details of the proposed antenna design and simulation results for WLAN operations in the 2.4 and 5.2 GHz bands are presented and discussed.
