Abstract :
Contemporary companies have been concerned in making research and development (R & D) management effectively, because the investments on its activities have increased, and such issues are present in the strategic decisions of organisations. Thus, this paper critically reviews the most important papers in the literature and expands researchers´ knowledge about R & D management by forming a bibliographic portfolio of the topic in order to identify the most important articles, authors, and journals and, additionally, to identify potential research in this area. A systemic literature review was performed using a structured process known as Knowledge Development Process-Constructivist (ProKnow-C), which leads to four steps: (i) relevant article selection for the portfolio, (ii) bibliometric analysis, (iii) systemic analysis, and (iv) research question definition of future research. This process enables researchers to build knowledge on the subject, showing several gaps in the current literature and instigating new works. Its importance lies in the framework available for future research about R & D and in the legitimation of the systemic literature review process as a knowledge generator.
