    Summary form only given. Nonlinear frequency conversion of GaAlAs diode laser radiation into the blue spectral region by SHG or mixing is a promising technique for an efficient, compact, and modulatable source of coherent blue light in such applications as optical recording, underwater communication, and visual displays.
