  • Abstract
    Object-oriented techniques are proposed for applications in computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM). Objects are used to model such manufacturing entities as parts, machines, product structures, and operations. An object-oriented architecture for the product and process design phases of CIM is then proposed. A scenario for simulating the design process is described. It appears that object-oriented techniques offer numerous advantages in CIM, including the ability to represent complex data structures, ease of model building, and support for dynamic simulations
