Abstract
Due to the imbalance of energy consumption of nodes in wireless sensor network, this paper proposes an Energy-Balanced Clustering Routing (EBCR) Strategy for Wireless Sensor Networks. In the stage of selecting cluster head, we take the node residual energy, the speed of energy consumption and the distance to the base station (BS) into consideration, by improving the cluster head selection process. The clusters closers to the BS have smaller size than those farther away, to achieve an effective balance between energy and distribution of cluster heads. This strategy focuses on the application of precision agriculture. Simulation results show that in small scale wireless sensor networks the EBCR strategy reduces the energy consumption among cluster heads, by balancing the network energy consumption distribution, and effectively extend the network lifetime.
