Abstract :
This work presents a novel wearable electromagnetic bandgap antenna (WEBGA) made out of conventional felt fabric. By introducing an electromagnetic bandgap surface to a conventional textile antenna, the required antenna size can be reduced by more than 30%. In addition, the input-match bandwidth can be increased almost 50%. Fabric antennas have shown their usefulness in various antenna applications. Eventually, this will result in full system integration on textile materials which will replace circuit boards on wearable applications. Such a system is then called system-on-fabric (SoF).
