  • Abstract
This work presents a traffic engineering framework to promote network stability and to optimize network planning to comply with QoS and cost network restrictions. The framework relies on a traffic characterization method that uses a hybrid traffic model based on three traffic parameters - mean data rate, H (Hurst parameter), variance coefficient - and evaluates the link load to define the method to calculate more accurate values for network delay and packet loss probability. The framework proposes also a network planning optimization procedure that uses an evolutionary approach. The simulation´s results show that the proposed framework has a potential use for promoting network stability and optimizing network planning for multimedia traffic.
