  • Abstract
A v-spiral antenna, whose arms are composed of horizontal and vertical sections, is analyzed using the FDTD method. The radiation characteristics when finite-sized perfect electric conductor (PEC) and electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) reflectors are used to back the v-spiral are revealed. The EBG reflector restores circularly polarized radiation for the v-spiral when the height above the reflector is small. Based on the radiation characteristics of the single v-spiral above the EBG a two-element array is constructed and analyzed. The input impedance of each feed point is found to have a broadband frequency characteristic.
