Abstract :
This paper proposes an copyright protection and error detection/recovery scheme for MPEG-2 video using Digital Watermarking and Error Control Coding (ECC) algorithms. Instead of being directly embedding into the MPEG2 video the copyright information is first passed through an ECC encoder to generate an ECC coded watermark. The ECC coded watermark is embedded into each 8 x 8 block of the I frame. At the decoder the watermark can be extracted and automatically corrected by ECC decoding. The embedded watermark information can also be used to detect and locate the transmission errors in the video stream. A video recovery method can then be applied to improve the quality of the transmitted video. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme is able to detect errors in the video stream while decoding and reconstructing copyright information more correctly than the traditional method.
