  • Abstract
A high-speed and high-performance video format conversion system has been developed based on picture quality and computational complexity. It consists of frame-size, frame-rate, and interlaced-to-progressive conversions. In the frame-size conversion, the edge-preserved and size-scaling schemes are utilized to enhance perceptual quality. The adaptive interpolation scheme is realized for the interlaced-to-progressive conversion. Considering the conversion between similar frame rates, the frame-inserting and frame-deleting schemes are used in the frame-rate conversion. In order to reduce computational complexity, the fast-processing techniques suitable for hardware implementation have been effectively explored. The proposed hardware architecture can provide enough computation power to achieve high-speed and high-performance format conversions in various multimedia applications.
