Abstract :
The Internet of Things network is an application-driven network, being rapidly deployed across the world. It is expected to become a mega-scale network (connect billions of devices), and heterogeneous in terms of its sub-networks as well as enabling technologies. The data traffic communicated over this network is expected to be highly variable. It ranges from being the parameters being monitored about objects in this world (“things”), e.g. temperature, to observations about a bigger environment, e.g. video surveillance of traffic. It may further vary from being critical data, to non-critical data. Accordingly, various issues related to packet delivery are of paramount importance. Especially for data related to safety-critical applications, and also urgent messaging, one needs to have a separate specific delivery scheme. In this paper, we propose a specialized delivery scheme for data that is of either urgent or critical nature, in the context of Internet of Things. The scheme is based on usage of byte-level error-correction codes, to improve relevant delivery parameters for such data. We have also simulated this scheme, and compared it with packet retransmission scheme for the perceived packet loss rate, and expected delivery latency. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme improves the transmission quality.
