Title :
The application of CMAC based intelligent agents in the detection of previously unseen computer viruses

Abstract :
This paper describes an ongoing research project at the University Of Southampton investigating the application of the Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller (CMAC) algorithm in the detection of previously unseen computer viruses. This paper will provide a brief introduction to computer viruses and hypothesise about the emergence of more intelligent targeted viruses. Existing methods of virus detection are discussed and the requirement for more intelligent detection methods is highlighted. An alternative method of detection is proposed based on the application of the CMAC algorithm in mapping the differences between redundant system components and the state of the system. Initial results are presented together with a series of recommendations for further research
