Abstract
This paper presents a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter intellectual property (IP) for high-fidelity audio applications. PWM inverters are more power efficient than analog amplifiers and can be designed in smaller size than analog amplifiers. A high performance PWM inverter consists of several modules including oversampler, cross point deriver, noise shaper and PWM generator. These modules are usually implemented by software on digital signal processors. This paper shows how to design these modules in hardware. An architecture was implemented with VHDL. The design can be used as an IP on FPGA or SoPC for high-fidelity audio applications.
