Abstract
One of the most interesting characteristics of microstrip patch antennas is that they can be printed on curved substrates. In fact they have found many applications in the aerospace industry where antennas conformal to the aerodynamic surface of the aircraft are needed. In this paper a cavity model analysis of the elliptic cylindrical rectangular patch antenna is reported. A short account of the theory is given and expressions of the radiated electric field are presented. Plots of far-field and input impedance for a probe fed patch are also shown. The effects of the eccentricity of the elliptic cylinder on the characteristics of the antenna are discussed.
