Abstract :
We describe an approach to WDM network management, especially addressing issues related to the restoration function. We also introduce a prototype management system for optical cross-connect networks that we have developed. We discuss the restoration algorithm which is adopted in the prototype system, and present results with respect to the restoration function, such as the required restoration time. Moreover, the implementation of fault and performance management in the prototype system is explained. After that, the used network design method is described, with special attention to spare capacity allocation and we present an evaluation of the restoration algorithm by simulation of the designed network
