Preface

CAD/CG\´05 stands for "The 9th International Computer-Aided-Design and Computer Graphics Conference" of the China Computer Federation (CCF) CAD/CG Committee. This is a biannual international conference series sponsored by the China Computer Federation CAD/CG Committee to provide an international forum for CAD and CG researchers to share their latest research output and to help identify new research directions in this fast evolving field. The 8th Conference CAD/CG\´03 was held in Macau in 2003 and this 9th Conference is held at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) between the 7th to the 10th of December, 2005. This is the second time that the Conference is held outside Mainland China and it signifies the effort of the China Computer Federation (CCF) CAD/CG Committee to propel the Conference into a mainstream international conference anchoring in Asia. The local Organizing Committee is working closely with the counterparts in China to make this Conference a success. The China Computer Federation (CCF) CAD/CG Committee is keen to bring this Conference to locations outside China in the future. The evolutions of CAD and CG in the last decade have brought closer integration between the two research communities previously entrenched in the respective disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. The integration has brought maturity to certain areas while new developments in other areas are instigated. CAD/CG\´05 tries to focus on some of these new research areas to provide participants with the necessary insights. The CAD/CG\´05 has also initiated a pre-conference tutorial session to facilitate the transfer of know-how in key areas to students of researchers new to the field.
