Next Generation Networks: NTT´s view and plan

Recently, services based on optical access have been rapidly penetrating into homes in Japan. In fact, the number of subscribers to FTTH reached 8 million in December 2006, which was double the number a year before. Furthermore, the monthly growth in the number of FTTH subscribers exceeded that of ADSL subscribers in the first quarter of 2005, and the number of ADSL subscribers began to decrease in the second quarter of 2006, supporting the prediction that the remarkable growth in the number of FTTH subscribers will continue in the years to come.
