Abstract
Communication networks have increased dramatically in size and complexity. As communication networks become larger and more complex, the need for advanced fault management system has increased. A single fault in a large communication network may result in a large number of fault indications making the isolation of the fault source a difficult task. In this paper, we propose an efficient alarm correlation and fault identification scheme based on OSI managed object classes to isolate the fault source quickly. Our algorithm uses managed object class dependency graphs. These graphs are more practical than other object instance basis graphs in the previous literatures, since the size of them are small and they remain unchanged even after the creation and deletion of real active object instances. It is shown that our algorithm is much simpler to implement
