Abstract
The paper describes a special-purpose haptic interface simulating the behavior of hand grips, to the aim of performing tests on different geometries and designs instead of building and testing real prototypes. The simulator must have embedded information about the device to simulate, such as cam shapes, friction parameters and masses. Accurate modelling of the actuator used in the simulator is required in order to compensate the dynamics of the actuator itself, so that the highest fidelity performance compatible with stability is achieved. Modelling and control issues related to operation of the device are presented and some experimental results are discussed.
